Vigil Eye
Statistics show that on an average, 92 women were raped in India every single day in the year 2014.
I have always wondered if technology can make the impossible, possible why not try and innovate around the area that has been worsening daily.
OBJECTIVE
A service aiming to achieve safety for women
The aim while designing this app has been to use the altruistic behaviour of our society to establish safety.
The approach throughout has been to develop a platform where citizens are involved in the process of joining hands against crime.

PROCESS

RESEARCH

LITERATURE RESEARCH
Recent studies show that stress levels could be monitored by analyzing skin resistance, such as perspiration or other skin reactions. Sudden rise in heart rate and stress levels could indicate the user is in crisis.
STUDYING SELF DEFENCE PROGRAMS

INCIDENT MAPPING
This exercise helped understand the the needs of the users at different stages and the stakeholders involved.

CONCEPT NOTE
The girl in trouble can choose to use the application from the anticipation phase, where she suspects danger. Here she can choose to follow the safest route suggested by the app to a nearby watch guard/volunteer or hospital and police station. She could also choose to get help. By activating this mode the user decides to share her location with the volunteers around. The volunteers can choose to help by accepting the request. This enables them to see her location and reach out. Volunteers will also have access to the closest medical help and police station numbers and can choose to take various measures to help the victim.
COLOUR PALETTE
A soothing colour palette was chosen, using tones of violet and grey.

MOCKUPS
The Homepage
The homepage has been designed keeping in mind that the user may be in a situation of distress. The functions have thus been kept intentionally functional and limited.
At any given point, guidance to the nearest safe location is available.
Navigation
In a stressful situation, it is very difficult to keep track of signs and symbols which help one navigate on a daily basis. The violet overlay on either side in this case, guides the user to the relevant direction.
Here the user also has an option to call emergency contacts as well as local emergency services.

Community
This space allows users to get help from each other. During the research, a very important aspect of how safety is perceived by an individual was spoken about, noting that many situations can seem to be of higher risk due to certain situations.
A street without much light or traffic was considered a high risk situation for most users. Such information can be shared with the community. The user will only get notifications related to their current locations. The user posting the message may choose to remain anonymous.
Watch Guard/Volunteer
The volunteer receives a notification. On opening the app the volunteer is shown the distance and the area the help is needed at. This allows the volunteer make the decision to accept the request or reject it without risking the privacy of the victim.
Future prospects
Through user data related to incidents and also warning feeds, the map can be made rich defining the safe and unsafe zones. This can help users plan their route through the safe zone, reducing the risk considerably.
Thank you for your time.
