DESIGN BRIEF
Decluttering / Tidying up with Marie Kondo: Design for Joy
Marie Kondo is the host of the popular Netflix show ‘Tidying up with Marie Kondo’. Kondo’s method of organising is known as the KonMari method and consists of gathering together all the ones belonging one category at a time, and then keeping only those things that “spark joy” (tokimeku the word in japanese means “flutter throb”, palpitate and choosing a place for everything from then on) and discard items that no longer spark joy , therefore unveiling physical and emotional transformations through simple act of tidying.
Design an experience that allows users to declutter their personal space (Home, garden, refrigerator or office desk etc.) by following the konmari method. The experience should also help users to deal with the emotional barriers preventing them from decluttering and transform the relationship they have with physical possessions and make intentional decisions.

RESEARCH

MARIE KONDO
Marie Kondo’s aim is to spark joy in the world through tidying up.
She is a tidying expert, bestselling author, star of Netflix's hit show, "Tidying Up With Marie Kondo," and founder of KonMari Media, Inc.
KONMARI METHOD
Most tidying methods advocate a room-by-room or little-by-little approach, which doom you to pick away at your piles of stuff forever.
The KonMari Method™ encourages tidying by category – not by location.
Keep only those things that speak to the heart, and discard items that no longer spark joy. Thank them for their service – then let them go.
Marie Kondo recommends following the right order.

“I’d like to tidy up the entire planet.
I would go anywhere if there were something that needs tidying.”
